Solution

In medieval times, scribes, nobility were the only section who could read and write. Before the invention of the printing press they were hired to copy the original work of the authors into books and produced manuscripts. They used vellum or parchment as writing material made from the animal skin. Scribes played an important role in producing manuscripts which generally included social, cultural religious beliefs of that time. Since these manuscripts were expensive they often served as status symbol as only influential people could hire scribes to produce manuscripts and could own them. Large part of the manuscripts of that time included beliefs and teachings from the Bible.
