Write any 3 examples to support/justify that India is a "holding together federations".

  1. Power sharing does not mean that all have equal powers.
  2. In India Chandigarh, Lakshadweep and Delhi are very small in size to be an independent State and also could not be united with any of the existing States. They are called Union Territories. The Central Government has special powers in running these areas.
  3. Sharing of Power between the Union Government and the State governments is a foundation of constitution. Any change in these powers has to be with consent of both houses of Parliament.
  4. The Supreme Court is the authority which decides on any dispute on sharing of powers.
