(i.) Sodium Hydroxide reacts with:- a.) Zinc b.) Aluminum

(ii.) Dilute HCl reacts with :- a.) Sodium Carbonate b.) Sodium Bi-Carbonate

Solution

Answers:

1)

a)NaOH (sodium hydroxide) + Zn --> No reaction (because Na is more reactive than zinc so , Zn can not displace Na from its hydroxide) However, we can get reaction in presence of water as:

2NaOH + H2O + Zn --> Zn(OH)4Na2 + H2

b)NaOH + Al --> No reaction (because NA is more reactive than Al) However, reaction occurs when water is present as:

6NaOH + H2O +2Al --> 2NaAl(OH)4 + 3H2

2.

a) 2HCl + Na2CO3 ---> 2NaCl + CO2 + H2O

b) HCl + NaHCO3 --- > NaCl + CO2 + H2O
