Features of Parenchyma tissue:

  • Parenchyma cells are living with thin walls.
  • They are round, oval or hexagonal in shapes.
  • These cells can differenciate and perform various functions.
  • They present in roots, stem, leaves, flowers and fruits.

Parenchyma tissues perform several functions like

  • Food storage in stems and roots (sweet potato, ginger etc.)
  • Site for photosynthesis
  • Secretion (resin)
  • Repair of wounds (meristematic activity)
  • Aeration (aerenchyma)
