Fractional Distillation: It is a process of separation of a chemical mixture whose components have different boiling points. It is a special type of distillation in which two miscible liquids having different boiling points but closed to each other are separated by fractionating column.
Fractional distillation is used industrially
(1) to separate different components of crude oil like petrol, natural gas etc.
(2) to separate different gases in air.
(3) It can also be used to separate acetone from water.
