In vehicles the rear view mirror and the side view mirrors are convex mirrors. The image produced by convex mirror is virtual and diminished. Thus, use of convex mirror increase the field of view of the mirror. It lets the driver see more. As a consequence, objects appear farther away than they really are. Hence, the warning printed on them "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear."
