(b) In comparison to pit A, pit B degraded faster because it was kept open and that's why it took oxygen much faster than pit A. Oxygen helps microbes to decompose the organic waste. But, in the case or pit A, the plastic avoided the proper flow of air. That's why microbial degradation didn't take place in pit A.
