Question

Paheli took a wire of length 10 cm. Boojho took a wire of 5 cm of the same material and thickness. Both of them connected the wires as shown in the circuit A and B respectively. The current flowing in both the circuits is the same.
Will the heat produced in both the cases be equal? Explain.

Solution

No, heat produced in both the cases will be different.
Heat produced in a current carrying wire depends on:
1. Material of the wire
2. Thickness of the wire
3. Length of the wire
Here, only the material and thickness of the current carrying wire is the same in both cases. Length of the current carrying wire is more in case A as compared to case B.
Hence, heat produced in both the cases will not be equal.
