In photoelectric effect when a photon having sufficient energy strikes on electron of a metal atom, it transfers its energy instantaneously to the electron. The energy which is supplied by the photon to the electron is used up to eject the electron from the metal atom (equal to the energy, binding the electron with nucleus) and the remaining is used to eject the electron with maximum kinetic energy.Q.
