Patterns of feeding and digestion in Protozoa?

Open in App
Solution

Patterns of feeding in protozoa
Protozoa feed with the help of their tentacles. Each tentacle consists of a Central tubular Canon surrounded by a contractile sheath. When the prey comes in contact the tips of tentacles soon get adhered and paralyzed by some toxin secreted by the suctorian. Prey gradually sucked into the suctorian body.
Digestion in protozoa
Digestion occur within food vacuoles. The food vacuoles change their size during digestion. With the contacts of the prey (food) vacuoles are acidic and the Vacuoles decrease in size, during this prey dies. After this the cytoplasm of the protozoan produce enzymes an alkaline the enzymes pass into the food vacuoles and the vacuoles decrease in size. The contacts of the vacuoles are digested.
