The correct option is D Both A and B
The pentose phosphate pathway is a metabolic pathway that occurs in the cytoplasm for the production of NADPH from NADP. In this pathway oxidation of glucose 6-phosphate takes place to produce pentoses. Thus it is also known as hexose monophosphate shunt. The first reaction of the pentose phosphate pathway is the enzymatic dehydrogenation of glucose-6-phosphate by glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase to give 6-phosphoglucono- δ-lactone which is hydrolyzed to the free acid 6-phosphogluconate. Hence this pathway is also called Phosphogluconate pathway. Thus the correct answer is option D.
