Human immunodeficiency virus causes Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This virus attacks lymphocytes (a type of white blood cells- T4 helper cells) and affects the body’s immune system. The immune system gets weakened and damaged and ceases to function. So, a person suffering from AIDS cannot fight small infections. ​
