The reason why dogs may start to bark even before the doorbell is heard by a person can be as follows:
1. Animals such as dogs have an exceptional hearing ability due to which they can hear even faint noises such as that made by footsteps even from a distance.
2. Also, animals may bark at a person even before seeing him because they may consider him as a threat or an intruder in their territory.
