Peter's father gifted 24 mint candies to Peter on his birthday. Later, his mother gifted him 57 butterscotch candies. How many candies he has in total ?

The correct option is B 81
Total candies Peter got will be the addition of all the candies his father and mother gifted . Aligning both the numbers according to Place value (starting from the right) :


For adding these two numbers we need to add the like terms of the digits together i.e. digits at ones place will be added together and digits at tens place to be added together.

By adding ones, we get 4+7=11 ones . We can write that as 1 tens and 1 ones.


Carrying 1 to tens place we get 1+2+5=3+5=8

Thus, Peter has 81 candies now.
