Question

PH3 forms bubbles when passed slowly in water but NH3 dissolves. Explain why?

Open in App
Solution

* N- H bond is more polar than P-H bond

* NH3 is highly soluble in water because of its ability to form hydrogen bond with water due to its high electronegativity.

* PH3 is very less polar compound and cannot form hydrogen bond with water. Therefore, it is not much soluble in water and escapes as gas,
forming bubbles.
