Question

Photosynthesis and digestion of food are chemical changes. Justify

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
Photosynthesis is a chemical change since in this process, carbon dioxide and water are converted into glucose and oxygen, thus the chemical formula has been changed.
Digestion of food involves both physical as well as chemical change. Physical changes involve the physical tearing, grinding, crushing, and churning of pieces of food.

During chemical changes, chemicals break foods into their building blocks. Some of the chemicals involved in digestion include stomach acid, enzymes and saliva. Acid incorporates chemical changes on the food (macromolecules) being broken down and enzymes fasten the chemical reaction resulting in the formation of a new product (simple sugars). The product of the digestion process is energy.
