Solution

The correct option is C

Glucose

The correct option is (C):-

The explanation for the correct answer:

Solubility:-

  1. Basically, it is the property of a solid, liquid, or the gaseous chemical substance which will be known as solute to just dissolve in another solid, liquid or gaseous solvent just for the formation of a homogeneous solution.
  2. It is also defined as the amount of the given substance that would be dissolvable in a certain amount of the solvent.
  3. Glucose is easily soluble in the water as it is small having only 6 carbons (C6H12O6) and also -OH groups attached to the carbons which will form a hydrogen bond with the water molecules, and hence soluble.

The explanation for the incorrect answers:-

Option (A):- Chalk powder

  1. Chalk powder's main component is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) whose solubility is extremely low in the water, because of the stronger force of attraction in the calcium and carbonate ions than in calcium carbonate and water.
  2. So when poured into water, only a little amount will get dissolved and the rest will stay in the solid phase and be mostly insoluble in water.

Option (B):- Tea leaves

  1. They are structured systems and are not soluble in water.
  2. They are also composed of long-chained polymers.

Option (D):- Sawdust

  1. Sawdust is actually the waste of the woodwork.
  2. But it is insoluble in water, in fact on adding sawdust to water, there would be a colour change because of the formation of the colloidal suspension but it won't dissolve in water.

Therefore, the correct answer is (C):- Glucose.
