Solution
The correct option is D Red, blue Action spectrum is the graphical representation of rate of photosynthesis against wavelength of light.
It was T.W. Engelmann who gave the first action spectrum of photosynthesis. He used a prism to split light into its constituent colours (VIBGYOR). He illuminated a green algae called Cladophora with it which was kept in a suspension of aerobic bacteria during the entire process.
He observed that maximum aerobic bacteria accumulated around the regions illuminated with red and blue light of the electromagnetic spectrum.
While there was negligible growth of aerobic bacteria around the regions that were illuminated with other wavelengths of light.
