Most of the Early Nationalists were educated lawyers, doctors, teachers, and journalists. The famous personalities during the first phase of the Indian national struggle were Womesh Chandra Bonnerjee, Dadabhai Naoroji, Surendranath Banerjee, K. T. Telang, Pherozeshah Mehta, R.C. Dutt Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Subrahmanya Aiyar and Madan Mohan Malviya. Subhas Chandra Bose came in the later stages of freedom struggle.
