Question

Pinky runs around a square field of side 25 m, Bob runs around a rectangular field with a length of 60 m and a breadth of 10 m. Who covers more distance and by how much?

Open in App
Solution

Distance covered by Pinky in one round = Perimeter of the square
= 4 × length of a side
= 4 × 25 m = 100 m
Distance covered by Bob in one round = Perimeter of the rectangle
= 2 × (length + breadth)
= 2 × (60 m + 10 m)
= 2 × 70 m = 140 m
Difference in the distance covered = 140 m – 100 m = 40 m.
Therefore, Bob covers more distance by 40 m.
