Question

Place a fist full of Bengal gram (or any other seeds)seeds in a bowl of water sink. You found some float while others sink. Why do some seeds float and others sink?

  • Few seeds sink because it has cotyledons or food reserves in them while those seeds which sink have shrunken cotyledon.
  • The seed which have cotyledon for nourishment germinates and which do not have cotyledons do not germinate.
