A xerophyte is a species of plant that has adapted to survive in an environment with little liquid water, such as a desert or an ice- or snow-covered region in the Alps or the Arctic.They have well developed root system, stunted, woody, hard stem and reduced leaves. Mesophytes however are the normal plants that require moderate amount of water. And hydrophytes are water plants that need high amount of water to grow, while lithophytes grow on bare rock or stone.
