Plants that do not have lateral cambium or secondary cambium in the vascular bundles of the stem usually cannot undergo secondary growth. The vascular bundles of these plants thus, are referred to as conjoint, collateral and closed. This condition of vascular bundles is observed in all monocot stems. However, secondary growth may take place in some monocot stems due to dedifferentiation of parenchymatous cell of the cortex, pericycle etc to meristematic tissue that can result in secondary growth. This type of secondary growth is termed as anamolous secondary growth as in Agave, Dracena, Yucca etc
