Dear Student,
Photosynthesis is the process of synthesis of food by the plants in the presence of light (sunlight). Raw materials used for the photosynthesis are carbon dioxide, water, sunlight, and chlorophyll. The photosynthetic pigment molecules found in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplasts such as chlorophyll, carotenoids, and phycobilins are light dependent pigments. They are activated by the absorption of the particular light of a certain wavelength.
The process of synthesis of food from the inorganic raw materials is termed as chemosynthesis. This is mostly used by the bacteria and such organisms are known as chemoautotrophs.
