Solution

Platelets

Platelets are one of the major blood cells, also called thrombocytes. Platelets are formed in the bone marrow and are essential for the survival of organisms.

  1. Thrombocytes are essential to blood cells as they help in preventing excessive blood loss from the damaged blood vessels due to injury.
  2. These cells change their shape to spiny when blood vessels get injured and start losing blood to get stuck on vessels
  3. It also starts producing coagulant proteins to form plugs or form mesh to the injury site to seal the damaged blood vessels.
  4. This plug is the blood clot and this process is called coagulation or blood clotting.

Platelets help in the sealing of damaged blood vessels.
