Porters generally use a cloth cushion on their heads to carry heavy luggage. Why?

as the cloth area has large surface area in return it will exert less force on the head of porter.

1. In order to avoid their head from the direct contact of hard materials with which the bags are made up of.
2. The cloth which is folded in a particular fashion and kept on the head will distribute the load over more area rather placed on bare head. This will reduce load acting at a particular point and the person carrying it feels more comfortable.
