Question

Power P is to be delivered to a device via transmission cables having resistance RC. If V is the voltage across R and I the current through it, find the power wasted and how can it be reduced.

Open in App
Solution

The power is wasted in the form of heat through the resistance RC in the transmission cables.

I is the current that flows through RC.Therefore, the power wasted, PC=I2Rc

So, power depends upon I2, therefore 𝐼 should be low and since,

P=IV,V should be high

Therefore, for a constant value of power, magnitude of I is low for a high magnitude of V and magnitude of I is high for a low magnitude of V.

Hence, in order to reduce wastage of power, magnitude of I should be low and magnitude of V should be high.

Final Answer: Magnitude ofI should be low and magnitude of V should be high.
