Predict the product 'P' of the given reaction.
It is a cross aldol condensation of ketone with aldehyde of no α-Hydrogens. This reaction is called as Claisen Schmidt reaction.
Mechanism of Claisen Schmidt reaction:
1. Formation of enolate ion: The base will abstract the α-hydrogen and forms a enolate.
2. Addition of enolate: The enolate will attack the carbonyl carbon of aldehyde to form aldol.
3. Dehydration: Water is removed from the aldol to form α,β− unsaturated ketone.
