Steps for drawing a line parallel to a given line:

Step 1: Mark a point A on the line PQ and a point R not lying on the line PQ.
Step 2: Join A and R.
Step 3: Draw an arc with A as centre and mark its intersecting points on PQ and AR as C and D respectively..
Step 4: Draw an arc with R as centre and mark its intersecting point on AR as B.
Step 5: Take measure of CD by compass. Draw an arc with B as centre and mark its intersecting point with the arc drawn in step 4 as E.

Step 6: Join the points E and R and extend it, we get aline parallel to PQ.

Number of arcs drawn = 3
