Steps for drawing a line parallel to a given line:

Step 1: Mark a point A, on the line PQ.
Step 2: Join A and R.
Step 3: Draw an arc from A intersecting PQ at C and AR at D.
Step 4: Draw an arc from R and mark its intersecting point on AR as B.
Step 5: Take measure of CD by compass and draw an arc from B intersecting the arc drawn from R at E.

Step 6: Join the points E and R and extend it, we get line parallel to PQ.

No. of arcs drawn = 3
No. of times the distance between compass tip and pencil tip is changed = 1
