Nature has provided man with a vast reserve of resources. Man has used these resources to build a world of comfort and luxury. However, we need to ask ourselves "What is the cost of this comfort?" Mother nature is surely resourceful, but it is also very powerful. This excessive use of nature may cost man much more than his comfort and luxury. One of the biggest concerns to address is deforestation, which may have a domino effect once it unravels global warming. Deforestation causes soil erosion and un-absorption of carbon dioxide, which is a ticking time bomb to global warming. Man's exploitation of nature has led to cause many environmental imbalances. Tsunami is the perfect and the best example of an environmental imbalance caused. These threats of the environment are being ignored by mankind in the pursuit of commerce, medicine, agriculture, and infrastructure. However, the onset of 'global warming' has begun.
Soon, global warming will increase in geometric proportions if not controlled and will lead to a plethora of problems. Global temperature will rise dramatically leading to droughts, famines and the extinction of many invaluable species. Greenhouse effect will aid global warming and cause melting of glaciers in the Arctic region, leading to dangerous rise in sea levels and flash floods. In simple words, our lives will become very miserable if we do not take concrete steps to conserve our environment.
A few necessary steps would be to curb pollution, reduce plastic wastes, stop deforestation and switch to greener and better alternatives of fossil fuels. If we do not take these measures, we would be the cause of our own peril.
So let us pledge on 'World Environment Day' to conserve and protect our environment to the best of our abilities.
