We have,
Age of father when son was $14 years$ old $= 42 years$
Age of father when son was $13 years$ old $= 41 years$
Age of father when son was $12 years$ old $= 40 years$
$\begin{array}{rcl} ∴ Ratio of age of father to the age of son & = & \frac{Age of father}{Age of son} \\ = & \frac{40}{12} \\ = & \frac{40 \div 4}{12 \div 4} \\ = & \frac{10}{3} \\ = & 10 : 3 \end{array}$
Hence, required ratio is $10 : 3$
