Question

Pressure P, volume V and temperature T for a certain gas are related by P=αTβT2V where α and β constants. Find the work done by the gas if the temperature change from T1 to T2 while the pressure remains the constant.

Solution

The given relation is P=αTβT2V
V=αTβT2P
Differentiating we get, dV=α2βTPdT ............(1)

Work done by the gas W=PdV
W=T2T1(α2βT)dT

W=αTT2T12β×T22T2T1=α(T2T1)β(T22T21)
