The process of release of the egg from the ovaries is known as ovulation. In a female, this process occurs when ovarian follicle ruptures and release the secondary oocyte ovarian cells on the path of a fallopian tube. After ovulation, during the luteal phase which is the latter phase of the menstrual cycle (in humans and a few other animals). In addition, the uterine lining is thickened to be able to receive a fertilized egg.
