Solution
Producers:
Producers are organisms which prepare their own food or energy.
Plants are considered producers are they prepare their food with the help of sunlight, water and carbon dioxide to obtain glucose(food) and oxygen.
They produce their own food mainly through photosynthesis.
They are important for the proper functioning of an ecosystem because other organisms(herbivores) that cannot synthesize their own food depend on producers (green plants) either directly or indirectly for their energy requirements.
The energy gained by the herbivores is passed on to the carnivores as they consume herbivores. Thus, to maintain the food chain and for the proper functioning of an ecosystem, producers are important.
