Curd and antibiotics production
Curd is prepared from milk by Lactobacillus. It ferments the milk and produces lactic acid, which reduces the pH of milk to form curd.
Antibiotics are secondary metabolites produced by some bacteria such as Streptomyces. They are used as medicine.
Heterotrophic bacteria
Heterotrophic bacteria utilises organic carbon sources to produce energy. They do not synthesise their own food but depend on these organic molecules (also known as substrate) for their food.
Lactobacillus and Streptomyces are heterotrophs that utilise simple sugars such as lactose and glucose as their carbon source respectively.
