Dear student
(1) Infrared light include most of the thermal radiation emitted by objects near room temperature.
(2) Infrared light is emitted or absorbed by molecules when they change their rotational-vibrational movements.
(3) The infrared spectrum can be divided into three regions having frequency range:
(i) Far-infrared 300GHz to 30THz
(ii)Mid-infrared 30 to 120 THz
(iii) Near-infrared 120 to 400 THz
(4) At the atomic level infrared energy elicits vibrational modes in a molecule through a change in the dipole moment, makeng it a useful frequency range for study of these states for molecules of the proper symmetry.
