Prove that 12 is irrational:

Use contradiction method

Let us assume 12is rational.

So, we can write it as

12=pq

where, p and q are two co-prime numbers.

On simplifying the above equation we get,

2=qp

Here, q and p are non zero integers.

So, qp is a rational number.

Since, 2=qp

So, 2 should also be a rational number.

But it contradicts the fact that 2 is irrational.

This contradiction has arisen because of our incorrect assumption that 12is rational.

Therefore, 12is irrational number.
