Question

Prove that the function f is given by f(x)=|x1|,xR is not differentiable at x=1

Open in App
Solution

Here f(x) can be written as
f(x)={x1x11xx<1
f(x) to the left of 1 is 1
f(x) to the right of 1 is 1
Clearly both of them are not equal so f(x) is not differentiable at x=1
