It possesses head, neck, middle piece and tail.

Head
The head contains an acrosome on the anterior side, which contains enzymes that facilitate the entry of sperm into the ovum. It is followed by an elongated nucleus with haploid chromosome number.

Neck
Neck is present in between the head and the middle piece. It contains two centrioles as follows:
The proximal centriole located towards the nucleus plays a role in the first cleavage of the zygote.
Distal centriole gives rise to the axial filament of the sperm which helps in the movement of the tail.

Middle piece
