Question

Pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein contain valves or not??

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
Arteries do not have valves
because the heart provides the pressure needed to circulate blood through the system whereas, veins have the valves so as to prevent the backflow of the blood as the blood in the veins flow slowly and with a low pressure so there are change of backflow.

But only pulmonary artery have valves ,

It is semilunar valve which is present between right ventricle and pulmonary artery, it prevents back flow of blood in right ventricle.
Thus, pulmonary artery and pulmonary veins contain valves
