Teeth are hard structures meant for tearing, cutting, crushing and holding food. A tooth has three parts- crown (exposed part), neck (surrounded by gum) and root (embedded in the socket). The tooth is mainly made up ivory like substance called dentine. In the root region dentine is covered by bone like cement and peridontal membrane or odontoblast layer. Internally, tooth has pulp cavity with connective tissue, nerve fibres, lymph and blood vessels. On the outside it contains odontoblasts (which produce dentine).
