Solution

Let the number of pupils =x

Total cost = Rs. 1000

Each share = Rs. 1000x

If 10 of them are failed to join the function then number of pupils joined =x10

Total cost = Rs. 1000

Each share = Rs. 1000x10

Each would have to pay Rs. 5 more

1000x101000x=5

1000x1000(x10)x(x10)=5

1000x1000x+10000=5x250x

5x250x10000=0

Divide by 5

x210x2000=0

x250x+40x2000=0

x(x50)+40(x50)=0

(x50)(x+40)=0

x=50,40

x=50

Number of pupils of the class =50.
