  1. Immunoglobulins are glycoprotein molecules that are produced by plasma cells.

Immunoglobulin M (IgM):

  1. IgM is found in vertebrates.
  2. They are the largest antibodies with a size of 180KDa.
  3. It is the first antibody that acts in response to an antigen.
  4. IgM acts as the first line of host defense and is also involved in immune regulation and immunological tolerance.
  5. It activates the complement system.
  6. The heavy chain in IgM is μ.
  7. The light chains comprise of κ and λ.
