Question

Q.1 A particle starts from the origin, goes along the X-axis to the point (20 m,0) and then returns along the same line to the point (-20 m,0). Find the distance and displacement of the particale during the trip.
Q.2 A person moves on semicircular track of radius 40.0 m. If he starts at one end of the track and reaches at the other end. Find the distance covered and megnitude of displacement of the person.

Solution

Solution 1.

Given

Starting Point A(x,y)=(0,0)

Second pointB(x,y)=(20m,0)

Third point C(x,y)=(20m,0)

Distance =AB+BC=(200)+(20(20))=60m

Displacement =final point – initial point=CA=(200)=20minxdirection

Solution 2.

Given,

Semicircle of radius R=40m

Move from one end to other.

Distance = Path of semicircle curve=πR=3.14×40=125.6m

Displacement= Path along diameter of semicircle =2R=2×40=80m
