Q.10. While conducting the experiment to determine the melting point of ice, students that the thermometer reading decreased for sometime and then become constant. What could be the possible reason for this? Explain briefly.

The solution is as follows:


The temperature becomes constant because the entire heat is used up in conversion from solid to liquid state of water. This point is known as melting point of water. The heat used in fusion of ice to water is latent heat of fusion.
