Baking soda (Sodium hydrogen carbonate) is prepared by Solvay process on a large scale in industries. In this process carbon dioxide, water, ammonia and brine solution are used. The chemical reaction that is used in the production of baking soda is as follows.

NaCl + CO2 + H2O + NH3 NaHCO3 + NH4Cl
