Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
The seeds of some grasses are called as apomictic because the seeds are formed without the process of the fertilization. It occurs because a diploid egg cell develops into the embryo without the fusion of the gametes. It may also occur because the diploid cell of the nucellus or the integuments which covers the embryo sac may develop into the embryo. The process of developing the embryo and seeds without the fertilization is called as apomixis.
