Q. As a result of a 25% hike in the price of rice per kg, a person is able to purchase 6 kg less rice for Rs 1,200. What was the original price of rice per kg?
Let the original price of Rice/kg=₹R, and the original weight of rice purchased=Wkgs.
So, initially R×W=1200.....Eqn(i)
Due to 25% hike in price, new price of rice/kg=₹1.25R=(5/4)R, and new weight=(W–6)kg
Now,(5/4)R×(W–6)=1200,→RW–6R=1200×4/5=960
→from eqn.(i),1200–6R=960 or 6R=1200–960=240.
→R=240/6=₹40per kg.
