Solution

Dear Student,

The general electronic configuration of d block elements are (n-1)d1-10ns2.
The characterstic properties of d-block elements are as follows:
(i) d- block elements are those in which last electron enters in d-subshell.
(ii) d-block elements lies in between 3rd to 12th group.
(iii)d-block elements lies from the period 4th to 7th.
(iv) d- block elements are also known as transition elements. Starting from Scandium as the first d-block element, ends upto Copernicum (112).
(v) d-block elements possess variable oxidation state.
(vi) d- block elements mostly are metallic in nature.
(vii) They have high boiling and melting point.
(viii) Many d-block elements have very high density. Highest density possess in the periodic table is Osmium.
(ix) Have variable atomic radii due to lanthanoid contraction.
(x) High ionization energy in d-block elements.

Regards.
